Cotswold Canals in Pictures

Oldbury Brook Aqueduct

The Oldbury Brook is at the eastern end of the 'missing mile'; the missing mile is the section of canal that was infilled when the M5 motorway was built.

The brook slices across the canal line here, partly through the tail of John Robinson (Westfield) Lock, which required the demolition of one of the lock's lower wing walls to make way for it.

When the canal is restored, the brook will be culverted and pass under the reinstated canal (and reconstructed tail of the lock).

Restoration
On-site preparation work ahead of constructing the new aqueduct is complete, and included:

- providing better site access.
- demolishing the existing footbridge.
- constructing a new temporary footbridge in a different location.
- creating a temporary diversion of the Oldbury Brook into the canal.

(Water diverted into the canal flows out through the Meadow Mill spill weir and into the River Frome.)
