Type 24 Pillbox, near Bristol Road Wharf

Along with the canal-side pillbox at Stonepitts Bridge, this Type FM3/24 pillbox near the former Bristol Road wharf was also a part of Stop-line Green. (There is another Type FM3/24 pillbox nearby at Fromebridge Mill, which is not featured on this site.)

(Pillboxes are defensive concrete guard posts, normally equipped with openings, or 'loopholes' through which to fire weapons.)

For further information on the Stroudwater WWII Pillboxes, see the review produced by the Gloucestershire Society for Industrial Archaeology (GSIA).  If using the main CCiP website, this can be downloaded from the Stonepitts pillbox page, see 'Further Information' for details.
