In common with the other locks in this section, this is in poor condition.
Lock Side Pond
This lock featured a side pond that stretched from Siccaridge Lower to Bathurst Meadow Lock.
This was a way of saving water during lock operation, and probably more importantly, reduced the chances of the very short pound between the locks running dry.
In the photo above, the side pond is difficult to make out, but the fallen tree lies across it. The canal line is just visible behind the bank about half-way up the image on the left-hand side.
