Site of Smerrill Aqueduct

One end of the canal embankment and site of the aqueduct is indicated by the low stone wall to the left in the first picture below.

The aqueduct comprised a single arch built of stone that carried the canal over a now disused section of the Kemble to Cirencester road.

The third photo shows the embankment (right), hidden by vegetation, leading down to the former aqueduct from Thames Head. About half the embankment width was removed when the aqueduct was demolished.
