Thames & Severn Canal - Coates Roundhouse

Top - The derelict roundhouse near Coates during 1986. This is the only one of the five structures on the canal that is in this sorry state. In common with Marston Meysey and Inglesham, this roundhouse had an inverted roof which was used to collect rain water. This has now completely disappeared, as seen in the above photo taken looking up through the inside of the roundhouse. Today, all the ramianing timbers have fallen, as can been seen in one of the images below.. Below - The roundhouse as it looked in 2009. Even with the ivy removed and a few minor repairs undertaken, it remains somewhat forlorn. |
