Before restoration, a significant part of the length between Ryeford Lock and the site of the newly constructed Oil Mills Bridge was infilled with domestic refuse in the 1960's.

This structure is adjacent to the canal towpath about 100m or so west from Oil Mills Bridge, in the grounds of Holly Tree House. This weir no longer plays any role in the water-level management in this section of the canal, as this is done by the new Ebley Confluence
