Site Evolution
The original photographic survey of the Stroudwater Navigation and the Thames & Severn Canal (known as the Cotswold Canals) was undertaken in 1986 whilst walking the accessible sections of the route from east to west.
Since 2002 all the locations photographed have been re-visited (where access permits), and as a result, the majority of the photographs have been updated. This reflects the changing condition of the canals over the intervening years, either through further deterioration or, more often, as the result of restoration or conservation work.
In some cases an older photo has been left in the index where it better illustrates the subject matter (where undergrowth now obscures the view for instance).
Acknowledgments
I would like to extend a grateful thank-you to the following:
Richard Fairhurst for allowing the Cotswold Canals map to be reproduced on this site.
The owners of Lock Cottage (Framilode), Kempsford Wharfhouse & 'Blue House' (near Ewen) for their kind permission in allowing photographs to be taken on their property for this website.
Charles Lyne, Ken Burgin & Dave Robinson for contributing photos.
