The original photographic survey was undertaken in
1986 whilst walking all the accessible sections of the
canals from East to West.
Since the summer of 2002 all
the locations photographed have been re-visited (where
access has been permitted), and as a result, the majority
of the photographs have been updated. These reflect the
changing condition of the canals over the intervening
years, either through further deterioration, or in many
cases, as the result of restoration or conservation work.
In some cases, an 'out of date' photo has been
left in the index. This has been done where it better
illustrates the subject matter of the photo (where,
say, undergrowth now obscures the view), or where access
to the site is restricted (ie. private property).
The process of updating the photos will continue through
the canals' eventual restoration.
